About Lost River Trails Coalition

Lost River Trails Coalition was formed to promote the development of a sustainably and universally designed mountain bike trail system in Lost River State Park, WV. Beginning with a conversation among a few cycling enthusiasts and moving to a more formal meeting at the Park to discuss the possibilities, the organization and the project have evolved over the course of several years. Naming Phase One of this first public, purpose built, mountain bike trail in the Park after LRTC’s late founder and president, the Jay Moglia Beginner & Intermediate Trail has been designed to meet the needs of new riders as well as building the challenging trails expected by experienced riders.

The physical strength, mental acuity, creation of community, self-confidence, and self-worth gained from learning to skillfully ride any mountain bike, is about empowerment and in founding the Hardy County Composite Team, The Cryptids, the Coalition has given voice to this empowerment and put its mission into practice. Holding trail-work days and hosting the Lost River Classic gravel bike race and Lost River Trail Run have increased the visibility of both the sport and the Park as it brings increased recreational opportunities to Hardy County and the region.

We invite you to join us, to build a mountain bike trail system in the Park, to learn skills, become trained leaders, and establish a positive momentum for future trail building and stewardship; to expand the sport’s reach to youth and adults of all abilities by creating the opportunity for riders to be fully engaged while experiencing the exhilaration and independence that mountain biking offers.

Working with Lost River State Park (LRSP) and Visit Hardy (Hardy County Convention and Visitors Bureau) since 2018, Lost River Trails Coalition (LRTC) has received the support of the Hardy County Commission, National Park Service, International Mountain Bicycling Association, Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area, WVU’s Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative, National Interscholastic Cycling Association, and the WV Interscholastic Cycling League, as well as local foundations, businesses, and donors.
